about Green East

HOTEL
With Manhattan's wide range of lodging choices to fit every taste and budget, Green East has not selected a "headquarters hotel" this year. We do, however, recommend the Hilton New York. Visit the Hilton New York's web site or consult your travel professional for their best available rate.

BY RAIL

Rail travel is perhaps the most energy-efficient mode of transportation available – and both Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal are hubs for frequent, convenient service from all points within the Northeast Corridor and beyond.

Amtrak is offering Green East participants a 10% discount (some restrictions apply) for travel to and from New York Penn Station from all points nationwide.  Call 1-800-USA-RAIL (872-7245) and request Fare Code X-43Q-923.  You may click on the link above for fare and schedule information, but must call direct for the 10% discount.

NJ Transit
NJ Transit provides comprehensive rail service from the Garden State to midtown Manhattan’s Penn Station (at 7th Avenue & 34th Street), as well as bus service to the Port Authority Terminal at 8th Avenue & 42nd Street (approx. 1 mile from Pier 92).

Long Island Rail Road
The Long Island Rail Road is the nation’s busiest commuter railroad, and provides service across the length and breadth of Long Island to Penn Station (at 7th Avenue & 34th Street).

Metro-North Railroad
Metro-North Railroad features three lines:  the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven serving Grand Central Terminal (at Park Avenue & 42nd Street).

BY FERRY

NY Waterway Ferry
Six routes span the Hudson River from New Jersey to the NY Waterway Ferry Pier at West 39th Street.  Upon arrival, board one of NY Waterway Ferry’s shuttle buses to West 50th Street, and it’s a short walk to Pier 92.  Check-out their interactive map on their website to determine which routes operate peak, off-peak, and on weekends.

BY AIR

American Airlines – Official Carrier

American Airlines is offering Green East participants a 5% discount off all classes of service for travel to/from JFK, LaGuardia (LGA), Newark (EWR), White Plains (HPN), and Stewart/Newburgh (SWF) airports.  The discount is valid on all oneworld carriers, so long as one segment is on American.  Travel must be booked on-line at www.aa.com, or by calling American’s Meeting Services Desk at 1-800-433-1790, and requesting Authorization Number A1939AP.  Some restrictions apply.

John F. Kennedy International Airport – JFK is located 20 miles from Pier 92.  Click on the link above for detailed information about JFK International Airport, including directions to Manhattan and ground transportation options.

  • In addition to a flat rate taxi service and shared ride vans, one of the ‘greenest’ ways to go is the frequent and inexpensive is to take AirTrain from any JFK Terminal to the Jamaica Station ($5 each way). From Jamaica Station, you can take the NY Subway into Manhattan (take the E to reach Midtown) for only $2!  Overall travel time can be as little as 75 minutes - - but we do caution that this is only for those who have minimal luggage, as many subway stations in New York only have stairs (no escalators or elevators).

LaGuardia Airport - LGA is located 11 miles from Pier 92.

  • In addition to taxi service and shared ride vans from LaGuardia Airport, New York Airport Service buses run from LaGuardia to the Port Authority Bus Station ($12 o.w., $21 r.t.) at 8th Avenue & 42nd Street – approx.  1 mile from Pier 92.

Newark Liberty International Airport - EWR is located 17 miles from Pier 92.

  • In addition to taxi service or shared ride vans, an inexpensive ‘green’ alternative is to take AirTrain.  From any Newark Terminal, a modern monorail will whisk you to the Newark Airport Rail Station in a matter of minutes.  From there, you may take NJTransit or Amtrak to New York’s Penn Station.  Prices vary.
  • Another alternative is to take Newark Liberty Airport Express bus service for $15 o.w. / $25 r.t. to the Port Authority Bus Station at 8th Avenue & 42nd Street – approximately 1 mile from Pier 92.

BY MOTOR COACH

An often overlooked alternative to rail and air travel – and certainly a ‘green’ alternative - is motor coach travel.  New York’s Port Authority Terminal – located at 8th Avenue & 42nd Street - is well-served by numerous local, regional, and long distance motor coach operators, including  Greyhound Lines, and is approximately 1 mile from Pier 92.

If traveling from Boston-Back Bay or Framingham, MA, consider LimoLiners service to the Hilton New York.  From there, it is 1.2 miles to Pier 92.

BY TRANSIT

By Subway:The closest NY Subway stop to Pier 92 is on the C or E lines at 50th Street & 8th Avenue.

By Bus: NYC Transit Bus lines with service near Pier 92 are the M50 at 12th Avenue & 50th Street (EB) or 49th Street (WB), or the M11 running at 50th Street &  10th Avenue (NB) or 11th Avenue (SB) .  Pier 92 is located at 12th Avenue & 52nd Street.

BY RENTAL CAR

If your travel plans necessitate a rental car, Hertz is offering special rates for the Green East show from their locations in Manhattan, as well as at JFK and LaGuardia Airports.  Hertz also offers the “Green Collection”, featuring hybrid, low emission/high mileage, and PZEV cars and SUVs (discount restrictions apply; hybrids not available at all locations).  Call 1-800-654-2240 request Hertz CV#046B0003.
